Hello again!
After last week’s short and scatterbrained missive, I had hoped that I’d sit down at my computer with some more formed thoughts this week. Friends, that is not the case.
Okay, but it is going to be nice to enjoy morning coffee on my porch, FINALLY!
Blame it on the way my muscles ache from workouts and yard work. Blame it on the mental fatigue of trying to assemble porch furniture and a new grill with instructions not even half as clear as a Lego set. Blame it on the full moon. Blame it on my reliance on meals of chicken nuggets and nacho cheese (not together, I’m not insane) this week.
Whatever you (or I) want to blame this brain fog meets body fog that has taken me over on, the result is the same: I’m ending the weekend more tired than when I started it.
After years of therapy, the little voice in my head just said, “but what can we be grateful for in this moment?” I guess that means that the money I have spent on my mental health has been worth it, because it was such an automatic thought that I rolled my eyes in response.
So yes, I’m grateful for a home with a back yard worth spending time in and the financial means to have nice things, like a new grill and porch furniture. I’m thankful for warm weather and sunny skies and a gentle breeze to make working outside pleasant. I’m hopeful for the friends who will gather for meals in my backyard this summer and for Luna, who is only a little grass-stained from running laps around the yard.
I will also be very grateful to be sipping a lemony drink on my couch while I settle in to (finally) watch Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials on Netflix as soon as I hit send on this email.
But first…
What I’m reading
I am listening to We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
I am reading book 12 of the Series of Unfortunate Events, The Penultimate Peril
Sample Sized
Please enjoy this stanza from a poem that I am still working on:
I asked God,
The universe,
The cards in the deck
The petals of the flower
If you loved me or
If you loved me not.
They never seemed to agree.
Best Thing I Ate This Week
Wildberry Crumble Ice Cream from Mitchell’s

I was on my way to pick up my new porch loveseat, when I got stopped at a railroad crossing and there was a group of men in safety vests filming the train that was coming along. So I also pulled out my camera and through my very dirty windshield, happened to catch one of the largest operational steam locomotives on camera.
